Forty rules of love is one among the influential works of Elif Shafak. It is a fiction which is about spirituality and Sufism. Basically, the novel is about a 40 year old Elea Robestan , her three teenage children and her husband. She married at the age of 20. Her husband named David is an American Doctor. Elea Robestan is a materialistic woman at the beginning. But after reading the book “Sweet Blasphemy” written by Aziz, her life’s direction changes drastically. Her mindset changes from materialism towards reality based on love.
The composition of Aziz was about Shams Tabraiz and Rumi. After reading the story in 2008 of the Turkish writer, she was really inspired. It taught her the true meaning of “love”, and that people cannot survive without true love. This not only taught her true meaning of love but she really wanted to meet the writer because of his outstanding idea. They meet at a Boston restaurant. Where they have a quality discussion related to his work. After meeting Aziz, Ela was really inspired and she wanted to go to Thailand with him.
Aziz didn’t want to take her with him because of his bad news that he was having cancer and had just a few days to survive. On the other side, the unhappy Ela don’t want to go back home because she wasn’t happy with her husband, rather she was spending her time for the sake of her children. But her love matters a lot thus she takes decision of spending her future life with Aziz.
They go to Thailand, and visit different countries together , and make their every moment precious by enjoying life. Thus her life is completed when she listens to her heart and follows true love.
