Frozen Lake Khalti Ghizer, Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan 

In the north of Pakistan there lies a beautiful lake, located in Khalti village of Ghizer. district (Gilgit-Baltistan), at an altitude of 2217m (7274ft). It’s named after the alluring village of Khalti. This lake formed back in 1979-1980 in the village of Khalti and this year it has become the most prominent home for winter sports and has attracted a considerable number of local tourists. The depth of this lake is 24m (8098ft) while it has a surface area of 98 acres which gets covered by an ice sheet during the winters. That is because it showed up as the most the most striking winter sports hub and has tourists attraction across the nation and it is yet to be explored by the tourist community across the globe.

Tourism Spot for The Year 2022

The lake water reflects the face like a mirror and is freezing cold even in summers. I remember my trip from school back in the summers of 2017 the water felt pretty cold few of my friends who were deft with hands and feet in swimming, jumped into the lake and I heard their teeth chattering when they came out of the water. Khalti lake Festival got attention because of its uniqueness, firstly ice•hockey and other skating games were played on the lake covered with ice and the audience felt pleased to watch the beautiful local dance in the skating boots along with sports. Secondly, there were stalls of local foods which gave the festival a traditional touch. 

Tourists Destination

It takes almost 4 hours from to the sheen Khalti lake by the car. This lake is located around 6km from Gupis, basically, it is Gilgit River that widens up and deepens up in the area of Khalti village and then again flow squeezed ahead of PTDC motel situated nearby with a view of the lake. The lake falls on the way to Chitral from Gilgit, its situated on the main road so it is easily accessible, old people and children can access and be found of its beauty without any additional efforts. The lake is partly surrounded by mountains of the Hindu Kush range and partly surrounded by lush green terraced fields and a tree line that make the view more scenic. The most exciting part was riding on the lack people do drifts and other exciting stunts with their cars and most of those video were seen viral on Tiktok and other social media platforms. The place is known for its peace and silence. Visitors can get unwind there in the calmness of the lack and its mind refreshing surroundings. 

Heaven on Earth (Ghizer valley)

This lake is known for its rich habitation of trout fishes and in the festival (KHALTI LAKE FESTIVAL) cerebrated this winter, it stood at the top as the most loved dishes and most of the tourists visit this area as fishers man. The local government facilitates the tourists by not imposing any taxes. What else can be more pleasing than this for a tourist? It is the most liked thing about northern Pakistan. It won’t be wrong if I call this “tax-free land” as heaven.
