Gilgit-Baltistan is famous all over the world because of its high mountains, almost more then 500 hundred mountains are located in Pakistan through the Karakorum, Himalayas, and Hindukush ranges. K2 is the world second-highest mountain located in Skardu. These mountains are so important to attract tourists to boost the economy. Primarily these mountains are very helpful in conserving nature, especially in protecting endangered animal-like markhor, ibex, snow leopard, etc. Markhor is the national animal of Pakistan. To protect these animals GB government has prohibited hunting.
If anyone is interested in hunting such kinds of animals. Initially, the hunter is supposed to contact the Wildlife Department and they will issue the license according to the trophy hunting protection program. The trophy hunting protection program gives a specific number of animals to hunt in a specific year. Hunters are supposed to pay a fee to the government. According to the contract with locals, 80 percent of that money will be spent on development sectors like education, health, and the safety of their lives. The remaining 20 percent will send to the account of the government. Through this process, a hunter easily hunts and fulfills his/her desire.
Recently two foreigners one from the United States and the other from Mexico paid almost 260,000 dollars for hunting two markhors in the Gilgit division. A survey reports conserving of the natural animals in Gilgit Baltistan has increased because of the trophy hunting program, which issues limited license for hunters to hunt. Secondly, to protect the young generation of animals the hunters were supposed to shoot the eldest animal among the other group members.

Now it’s time to tell you about some hidden places where you can easily access Markhors. Most hunters are visiting Khunjrab top and Astore of Gilgit-Baltistan for hunting. Of course, these places are easily accessible, but there are many hidden places like district Ghizer ‘the land of martyrs’. This place is famous for its historical background and the high-altitude Mountains. Yasin valley is part of this district which is covered by the Hindukush Mountains. It may take 3 to 4 hours to reach Yasin valley from Gilgit city. Ghizer District has many guest houses and hotels to stay in, as the people of Yasin are famous for their hospitality. To hunt markhor there are two famous places “Thoi” and “Asumbar”. Here you can easily hunt markhor and you can also explore the beauty of nature as well. The local people of these areas are so trained and experienced that they will guide you properly.
