Rainbow Mountain in Yasin Valley 

A rainbow mountain resembles the seven colours of a rainbow; due to this, it is called a rainbow mountain. These types of mountains are found around the world, mainly in the United States and in China. The Rainbow Mountains in China are found on the outskirts of Zhangye city. On the other hand, mesmerizing rainbow mountains are found in Nevada, Washington, D.C., and Peru.

Where is Rainbow Mountain located in Gilgit Baltistan?

In the Ghizer district of Gilgit Baltistan, there is a tehsil named Yasin. Moreover, Yasin Tehsil has many villages, and they all fall among the high mountain ranges. A valley called Qorqulti that borders other regions of Gilgit Baltistan, mainly the meadows of Chatorkhand, has a wonderfully coloured mountain recently discovered and named Rainbow Mountain.

How to get there?

It would take 145 kilometers from Gilgit city to reach Tehsil Yasin. Moving east from the Taus bazaar towards Gojalti valley and then taking the route through Sandi to Qorqulti. Qorqulti is home to the famously known Asumbar meadows. There is a six-hour trek from Qorqulti Valley to Assumbar Meadows. The region of Asumbar is well known for its trout fish and Asumbar Lake. After reaching Asumbar Lake, it would take another six hours to reach the top of Rainbow Mountain.

How far is it from Gilgit City?

The vicinity of Rainbow Mountain, located in the Yasin region, is a reflection of nature’s master work. From Gilgit city to Yasin, the distance would add up to 145 km. After entering the Sandi valley, which is home to the centuries-old Muduri fort, turning further east to reach the Qorqulti valley would take a quarter of an hour. From there on, it is a trek of almost ten hours to reach the astounding Rainbow Mountain.

Why is it called Rainbow Mountain?

This mountain is naturally decorated with numerous colors. The various kinds of minerals reflect different wavelengths of light. Due to the combination of these colourful patterns, the mountain is given the name Rainbow Mountain.

Is it possible to camp in the surrounding areas of Rainbow Mountain?

The places beneath Rainbow Mountain in Qorqulti are beautiful meadows. The Assumbar Nala (meadows) are known for their plain grassy grounds and the sky, like Asumbar Lake. Therefore, the vicinities of Rainbow Mountain are just perfect for camping. The lush green lands of Assumbar Nala offer some extraordinary adventures to campers and wanderers.
