The FUTURE World

The year 2550, the nuclear age: the barren soil bears no vegetation, ruined architecture lay exposed, the world is now a graveyard of humans; breathing but the soul lost, and the sky is lethal.

Mother nature yearns for the days when she used to reign the kingdom of the Earth. Somewhere in a faraway cave, even the devil quietly weeps. The heavens Look askance onto our condition. Hell has declared us an abomination. The angels have shied away, believe me, I am telling you it is worse than an apocalypse. Maybe we are experiencing hell on Earth, or something even more deteriorating than that.

JOY! Exhilaration! Unexplainable euphoria; I lay cradled in the cirms of the sun, the clouds my cover, the sky an embrace. The wind brushed my cheeks: making me giggle, and the sweet-sweet smell of rain, and washed leaves, tingles my nose making me feel my existence.  The rustling of leaves and the singing river blessed my soul with extreme sacredness.

Was it all a dream? OR sweet memory of my past? What now? Where am I? Alas! I have to succumb to reality, the reality I resent all the time.

AGONY! Disquiet! Extremely miserables as if I have lost my home, my existence. Deep choking, the taste of metal on my tongue. My lungs are raw as desert. Here I am, and my heart has lost its rhythm. Living in a city which is floating in the air.

The climate change of 2523 was marked as humanity’s greatest failure. The dramatic increase in temperature caused the sea level to raise unexpectedly. Our homes were flooded and the dry land left behind was not enough to support us. Life on ground was being no more possible. Considering it a natural disaster we, the mighty humans aimed to fight the situation. Consequently, the world’s best scientists and engineers to manufacture “PROJECTIONS.” Which were same as any regular city, except they hover some 15000 feets in the sky. Just high enough to be out of the water’s reach. Every year the altitude is raised, and with each inch upwards we seem to be driffting away from our true home.

This world in which I am currently breathing: rather than living, is not any different from the world of my past. These projections are same habitats as the ground, once we lived. EXCEPT for the sweet perfumes of roses and wild lillies are now replaced with the rusty smell of metel. Instead of the lush green trees, here we got huge cylindrical buildings; breathing smoke. Instead of the singing of nightingle, there is always a hullabaloo of machines. This world of ours also got streets crowded with people, but the lack of purpose is evident. Here we got doctors, teachers, and artists but not of flesh; of metal.

Instead of the glittering array of stars, here the sky is possessed by drones. The only natural thing we are now left with is the SUN, for which God is to be thanked that it was not on the ground. As nature was killed; we had to settle for artificial means to attend to our needs. We made our bodies to adapt finite supplies. Water, of which seven to eight glasses used to be a dietary requirement is now only limited to 100 ml per person per day. We can do nothing, but accept the fact that we cannot even enjoy the simple pleasures brought about by food. One injection of pharmaceutical supplements is only what we can take to survive. Each day is spent in the anticipation of the night and each night in the hope that this will be the last. I wonder what value life holds if we are nothing but the slaves of our needs?

“Power corrupts, but absolute power corrupts absolutely.”

We wanted to rule, we wanted nature in our control. We only wanted to be superior, the best of the best revolutionary. And may be we weren’t wrong. This is what we’ve done througout our existence. We have fed our greed, our selfishness, our Lack of concern. And Look what we have gained? Sometimes it’s a mystery to me that why everyone is celebrating our excellence, why we are thinking that we are now the gods? Just because every single thing around us is our own creation. Is this what we wanted? If so, I am afraid, that we are ending up being idiots.

“I am exhausted with the burden of these thoughts. Yearning for the complexity of life, I really wish to return to the ground we no longer can touch. I don’t want to be a jigsaw puzzle anymore, one whose core pieces are lost somewhere in the water beneath. I wish with the closing of my eyes, I could float back into the world where everything was just fine. Where I went to school with my friends, where I was blessed with the beauties of nature.

Where life was worth living, where I was more than simply a being, breathing. Alas! I ONLY WISH.
